Horn Tooting!

The RI VeloSprints series raises funds to help enable things like the U.S. Open Cycling Foundation delivering our Cycle-for-Health programs in elementary schools throughout the State.  We are here to empower Rhode Island youth to lead a healthy, active lifestyle…and to take their parents with them.

Here is a little story on the event from which the U.S. Open Cycling Foundation sprung.  An event we are working to build sponsorship to bring to Rhode Island and one that will show off Rhode Island to the world.

Session 3: Fastest Times!

Interesting evening this Monday past.

Times continue to tumble.

The fastest time was set during a grudge race – so it is unofficial and no point will be awarded.

Fastest Times

Racer                                       Category                                      Time (sec.)

George S                                    Men Overall                                          21.054

Tom H                                          Men 50+                                               23.591

Andy W                                       Men 40+                                               24.485

June P                                          Women Overall                                  25.289

Maureen D                                 Women 40+                                         27.059

Each of these riders will have a point added to their total in the tournament standings.  They will also receive a matching hoodie and and pilsner glass from Pedal Pushers Club.  Standings will be out tomorrow.

Incidentally, the fastest time of the night was posted in a grudge match between Donny G and George S.  Donny finished in 20.946 seconds.

Another one in the books! And it was crowded!

What a great night we had Monday night! Thanks to all who came, braving the rain and wind. Easily our biggest night yet! Fourteen new racers, some vestigal teams beginning to form and what looked to be a great night had by all. Thanks to McFadden’s, Harpoon and the stalwart crew of Betty, Liz, Sarah and Matt, Camilla and Ellen.. Awesome job!

A special shout-out to June who brought the Sensata crowd. I hope you guys form a team for next week!

Results out tomorrow evening…late.

Cheers!

*: revised 1.15 to add point for fastest time in category (RGD)

Session 2 Was a Huge Success!

Plenty of folks came…both new and returning.  A couple called out with colds and we hope they feel better soon!

We split the night into an open sprints session (any rider vs. any other rider) and an intra-category session. Followed both with a couple of grudge races.   The races were close and exciting!  There were some surprising results too.

Music to race by helped make the evening more enjoyable as did libation from our friends at Harpoon Brewery and great food and service from McFadden’s (Thanks, Jenny)!

Next week is an off week for us due to the MLK Day Holiday.

We’ll be back on Monday, Jan 25 with two new categories: 50+ (years old) and “walk-ons” for those who are interested to see what all the fun is about.

No-one has contributed to our “suggestion buckets” yet.  It is a matter of time, though.   ;-}    On the 25th, we’ll have free,  clean  souvenir T-shirts and a bottle of mouthwash for each “contributor.”

Taking suggestions for music as well – just comment below.

Ride-on!

Da Tournament Rules

OK! Folks.  Most GoldSprints, OpenSprints, VeloSprints go on a simple rule: fastest time wins.  We’re not going to do that.  Here’s what we’re going to do…

Each race win garners you and your team (if you are associated with one) 5 points.

Second garners 4 points.  If and when we can add rollers for two additional bikes, third will get 3 pts. and 4th will get 2.

Fastest time of the night – in each category – will get that rider (only – no team points here) an additional point and fastest rider of the night – overall – will get one more point on top of all that.

We’ll carry all these points forward through the 15th of March and use them to seed the finals on March 29th.

Thoughts?  Comments?
